Phytotherapy is the branch of medicine that studies the use of medicinal plants capable of performing a pharmacological action in the human. This discipline is not an alternative to medicine based on synthetic drugs, but is complementary to it.
Since ancient times man has been cured with herbs, which until the beginning of our century have been the main form of therapy. Today, the phytotherapy is experiencing a remarkable development, due largely to a growing number of scientific studies and clinical trials, which eliminated empiricism that characterizes it, making public the mechanisms of action of medicinal plants and confirming their healing properties.
