DYSLIPIDEMIA (Hypercholesterolemia synonym): These diseases are characterized by increased levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, or both in the blood. The normal maximum levels of total cholesterol should not exceed 200 mg / dl, those of HDL cholesterol (known as good cholesterol) should not be less than 40 mg / dl, those of LDL (so-called bad cholesterol) should not exceed 130 mg / dl and those of triglycerides should not exceed 165 mg / dl. HDL cholesterol is called good cholesterol, because it helps to protect against damage caused by the bad cholesterol or LDL. These illness is dangerous because it considerably increase the atherosclerotic processes in blood vessels and because it is, at least initially, almost always asymptomatic.
