COUGH: it is a symptom of respiratory problems, and is usually caused by inflammation of the bronchi, mainly due to bacterial or viral infections, which occur with great frequency in the winter. The cough may be more or less persistent, especially during bed rest, and can be dry (with little sputum production) or productive (with abundant sputum production). Cigarette smoking and environmental pollutants also aggravate the disease and slow its healing.
USEFUL PLANTS: Althaea officinalis (Altea), Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice), Malva officinalis (Mauve), Papaver rhoeas (Red Poppy), Polygala virginiana (Poligala), Pinus species (pine of different species), Propolis.
SINUSITIS: are inflammatory diseases of the nose, usually caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi, very frequent in winter. The typical symptoms are itching, burning and nasal congestion accompanied by difficulty in breathing and more or less abundant nasal discharge. Sometimes there may be fever. Cigarette smoking and environmental pollutants also aggravate the disease and slow its recovery.
USEFUL PLNTS: Echinacea angustifolia or purpurea (Echinacea), Malpighia punicifolia (Acerola), Malva officinalis (Mauve), Propolis, Ribes nigrum (blackcurrant), Rosa canina (Dog rose), Thymus species (Thyme), Uncaria tomentosa (Cat’s claw).
