DISORDERS OF THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE: is a very common disorder, particularly in women of younger age. It consists in the appearance of irregular menstrual cycles as low as timing and amount or their disappearance temporary or permanent. The latter event is called secondary amenorrhea. In the presence of secondary amenorrhea you should do thorough investigations to determine the cause.

USEFUL PLANTS: Cimicifuga racemosa (Black cohosh), Humulus lupulus (Hops), Soy Isoflavones, Oenothera biennis (Evening Primrose), Vitex agnus castus (Chasteberry).

MENOPAUSAL SYNDROME: It is caused by the endocrine changes typical of this period of life characterized by a sharp drop in estrogen, which are the main female sex hormones along with progesterone. Menopausal syndrome is characterized by a set of nonspecific symptoms such as fatigue, hot flashes, anxiety-depression, premature aging especially of the skin, increased appetite resulting in weight gain and osteoporosis. Furthermore menopause exposes women to an increased frequency of cardiovascular diseases such as cerebral infarction and stroke.

USEFUL PLANTS: Cimicifuga racemosa (Black cohosh), Soy Isoflavones, Hypericum perforatum (St. John’s wort), Humulus lupulus (Hops), Oenothera biennis (Evening Primrose), Passiflora incarnata (Passionflower), Valeriana officinalis (Valerian).
