BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA: it is characterized by an increases of prostate volume due to swelling of cells (hypertrophy simple) or presence of one or more benign tumors called adenomas (adenomatous hypertrophy). It is typical of men aged over 60 years and it is favored by male sex hormones, especially testosterone. The increase in volume of the prostate causes a compression of the urethra with relative narrowing of the lumen and consequent difficulty in urinating. The urinary stream is therefore particularly weak and suffering patients should strive to deliver the urine. Particularly troublesome at night is the need to urinate frequently.
USEFUL PLANTS: Lycopene, Pygeum africanum (Pigeum), Serenoa repens (Saw palmetto), Urtica dioica (Nettle).
URINARY INFECTIONS: are infectious-inflammatory diseases of the bladder, usually caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi, which are more common in the females for anatomical reasons. These infections are often recurrent, that is, occur periodically with no apparent triggers. Typical symptoms include bruising of the bladder especially when urinating, need to urinate frequently especially at night and sometimes even high fever, often with the emission of cloudy and smelly urine.
USEFUL PLANTS: Arctostaphylos uva ursi (Bearberry), Eugenia cariophyllata (cloves), Thymus species (Thyme), Vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry).
